How AloeCool Works

How AloeCool Works

Aloe vera has a range of protective and anti-inflammatory properties when applied to the skin as it contains:

Healix AloeCool harnesses all the goodness of Aloe Vera through the use of Aloe Barbadensis leaf juice which is extracted from the clear gel centre of Aloe Vera plants.

Other nourishing ingredients are also incorporated into Healix AloeCool to create this calming and protective product suitable for irritated, itchy or dry skin:

Colloidal oatmeal made from ground oats is able to help create a protective barrier to strengthen sensitive or weak skin against environmental stress and helps to reduce water loss from poor skin cohesion in reactive and dry skin. Oat extract is also able to reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines in the skin and lead to decrease of itch sensation.

Chamomile extract from the chrysanthemum plant helps to calm irritated red skin.

Ceramides is important in supporting atopic and allergic skin which has insufficient lipids leading to transepidermal water loss. Ceramides added to Healix AloeCool provides moisturising effects to reduce skin barrier dysfunction.

With a perfect blend of all the above components, Healix AloeCool is able to provide essential moisture, antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and lipids to maintain healthy skin barrier in dogs and cats whilst the soothing, easily absorbed cooling gel works quickly to reduce itching, redness, dryness and irritation.

Aloe Vera : The Whole Plant

Aloe Vera : The Whole Plant

The species of aloe vera used for medicinal and herbal benefits goes by the latin name Aloe Barbadensis.

Grown around the world, this spiky plant with thick juicy leaves is actually an “angel in a devil’s cloak”.

A hard outer layer with spikes encases a thin layer of latex which has the appearance of bitter yellow sap. It is only after passing through these layers that you reach the luscious wonderful clear gel centre of aloe vera.

This cooling gel in the centre of the succulent Aloe leaves has been used through the centuries by cultures as old as the Egyptians and Greeks through to ancient China and across Europe.

* Precautions regarding home DIY treatment with the whole leaf *

As mentioned above, there is a layer of latex under the thick green casing of the leaf and this leaks out of the leaf in the form of yellow sap when the whole leaf is cut. The yellow sap causes side effects of diarrhoea and GI upset if ingested by humans or animals and may also cause irritation to the skin if this is applied directly from the whole leaf.

This is why care must be taken when extracting the useful gel centre of the Aloe vera leaf and it is advised to use Aloe products created for pets, rather than trying to apply DIY treatment at home using a whole leaf.

Healix AloeCool is safely created using just the beneficial clear gel centre of Aloe vera leaf without any of the latex or yellow sap contamination. A beautiful clear juice is extracted from the centre of the Aloe Barbadensis leaf and combined with other naturally soothing ingredients including chamomile and oat extract to create the Healix AloeCool gel for topical use in dog and cat skin conditions.

Homecare Advice From Veterinarian

DO’s 😀

  • Keep paws clean and dry – check your pet’s paw frequently to ensure paws are not soiled, wet or swollen. Feel between the digits and check between the paw pads to ensure it is dry. There should not be any sticky discharge on the skin or any pain or swelling. After dogs have been out on a walk or after cats have been in the litter tray, check the paws and wipe clean if soiled after toileting or stepping on wet floor/cat litter.
  • Check nails at least once a month to ensure that they are not overgrown or abrading the paw pads.
  • Seek veterinary advice if skin problems persist or appear severe.

DON’Ts 🙁

  • Do not clean paws with alcohol wipes, vinegar, other irritating substances or anything that will leave a strong smell on the paw.
  • Do not allow pet to lick or chew at any part of the body or paws repeatedly – use a buster collar (“cone”) if necessary
